I just wanted to share this with you. I don't even remember where I got it (I didn't start out keeping really good track of that sort of thing) so I can't even give credit. If it is yours, or you know whose it is, speak up.

1/2 cup sugar
Lemon juice

Put sugar in a container with a tight fitting lid, and add just enough lemon juice to make a paste. Apply some to hands and leave for 15-30 seconds, then rinse with water. Pat dry and apply lotion. Store unused portion in refrigerator, and if it gets thinner, just add more sugar.

It really does make your hands softer than just lotion alone.
